Peter & Sarah {Cortland New York Wedding Photography}

sarah peter blog cover The morning of their wedding, it rained, and the forecast called for rain all day. I drove to Cortland only to find an amazingly calm Sarah, ready to get her day started and ready to marry the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, rain or no rain. You see, Sarah has spent the last year and half planning every detail of this wedding. That’s who she is, a planner, a crafter. She crafted every detail by hand, with love, and this day reflected that. The day was a perfect representation of who Peter and Sarah are. From the timeline to the food, every part spoke to the unique individuals that they are, and the beautiful relationship that they have built over the last few years. Enjoy Falling In Love with Peter & Sarah’s beautiful October wedding!

Sarah, you were the epitome of a beautiful bride on your wedding day! cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding Peter and Sarah were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Cortland, NY. It is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever been in.
cortland ny wedding One of the cool things about this wedding was that so many people who love Sarah & Peter were involved. Along with me as the photographer, they hired a friend of theirs as the DJ, a friend to do videography and another friend to make the cake and cupcakes. It was really a day full of friends, family and love. Below are some of Sarah and I’s coworkers. cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding He was smitten when he saw how beautiful she was. cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding Not going to lie, I totally cried during their vows. cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding MARRIED! Whahooo! cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding The rain broke just in time for us to take some beautiful fall photos up near Reeds Seeds. They have such a great view of the town of Cortland and were gracious enough to let us used their land for these amazing photos. cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding cortland ny wedding Peter and Sarah got some gentlemen from the CNY Mustang Club to drive them and the wedding party to the reception. Those were some nice looking cars! cortland ny wedding sarahpeteblog044 sarahpeteblog045 The decor at the reception was out of this world. When I said that every detail was thought of, I am totally serious. It was just gorgeous! sarahpeteblog048 sarahpeteblog047 sarahpeteblog049 sarahpeteblog052 sarahpeteblog051 The cake table was AMAZING. One of the best I have ever seen and you couldn’t walk by without getting a whiff of the yummy goodness. sarahpeteblog053 sarahpeteblog054 sarahpeteblog050 sarahpeteblog055 sarahpeteblog056 sarahpeteblog057 sarahpeteblog058 Sarah & Peter decided to do something super unique for their reception and have minute-to-win-it games. It was crazy fun and hilarious and let’s just say that some of their guest were super competitive! sarahpeteblog059 sarahpeteblog060 sarahpeteblog061 sarahpeteblog062 sarahpeteblog063 The last dance may have included Pete and Sarah’s sister doing their own choreography to gangham style. Yea…they were THAT fun! sarahpeteblog064 Sarah and Peter, thank you so much for hiring me to shoot your wedding. It was a day unlike any other and one that I will not soon forget. Janice Graebner - What an exceptionally beautiful wedding and reception. Very unusual with so much personality. Gorgeous photography!

Troy & Tessa {Mason Michigan Wedding Photography}

Last weekend, we jumped in the car and drove to Michigan. I love our trips back home because we get to see all of our family, but this trip was extra special. My Sister-in-law, Tessa, had asked me to shoot her wedding to her fiance Troy, and I just had to say yes! I was so so privileged to be apart of this special day and document such an important event in their lives.

When you meet Tessa & Troy, you instantly see how perfect they fit together. They both are casual and laid back and have built themselves a little family with their two fur-babies Lucy and Ava. When you spend any time with them, you see how amazing their relationship is with each other. When he puts his hand on her back, all the stress just melts away and when she grabs his hand, it’s like all is right with the world again.

Tessa & Troy were married on Oct 4, 2014, almost 60 years to the date of when Tessa’s grandparents were married. Their ceremony included special touches and traditions that were melded together and left not a dry eye in the church. I love how all their details were perfect examples of them and their relationship over the past few years. Tessa chose to wear a necklace that had been Troy’s grandmothers and perfume that Troy bought her in Paris on their European trip they took together last year.

The last pictures we took were with Lucy and Ava. They both got really excited when they saw Tessa, it was quite comical!

Little Boys and God Moments

Sunday. The day started off not good. Wes was all over the place, into everything and definitely not listening to anything his dad and I said. He was being a typical toddler. Exploring and climbing. And giving us a heart attack in the process. We decided we needed to get out of the house so we went to the Clark Reservation to go hiking.

We strongly believe in having Wesley play outside and foster a love for the outdoors. I think kids don’t have enough time to play and run and explore. It always seems to help his state of mind and ours as well!

That evening, after nap and dinner, we were just hanging out in the living room when Wes came over to me and sat in my lap. He put his head on my chest and I began to rock him. He’s done this in the past but only for a couple seconds before he was up and off running again. This time, he stayed. He stayed in my lap and as I rocked, he started rocking too, letting me know that I shouldn’t stop. We stayed like this for a good 2 minutes (which in Toddler time is a lot!). It was such a treat and I breathed him in and just let time stop to enjoy the few moments because I know, as he gets older, they will be fewer and far between.

Later, I posted something about it on facebook and a friend told me that she calls them “God moments”. God moments. Her comment made me pause.

How often do we sit and just allow God to hold us, to rock us in his arms. So often we are like a little Wesley – running around like a chicken with our heads cut off. Doing this and doing that, not listening for our Father’s voice when he is saying “No my Child, come this way.” How often are you quiet? How often do you just sit and listen for His voice? Our world is so full of noise…TV, music, computers, cars, sirens, talking, gossip and on and on. We are so used to noise, that sometimes, silence makes us uncomfortable. But it’s in the silence that we can hear Him. It’s in the silence that He speaks to our hearts. When is the last time that you sat and let God wrap his arms around you? I know that I need to make more time for it.

Janice - You are so wise beyond your years. I’m so proud of what a fantastic mother, writer, photographer and woman you have become. Your husband and your son have contributed so much to your growth. With Kyle and Wesley by your side, you can accomplish anything. Than you Kyle and Wesley. God Bless you Katie.

Swing from My Branches {Cortland NY Family Photography}

“Come Boy, climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and Be Happy” ~ The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

I have been learning:

* Little boys are meant to run, not sit still
* Little boys are meant to explore
* Little boys are meant to get dirty
* Little boys are meant to play with sticks and bugs
* Little boys have big hearts and even bigger minds

I used some of the things I learn to connect with these guys when we did our family session at Lime Hollow a couple weeks ago.
